- Robert Bergquist - President and CEO

In his 25 year career running and counseling companies, Robert has served as CEO and President and provided strategic management, banking and legal services to a variety of ventures. Prior to his current position, Robert ran DealPlanner, a transaction process management ASP, which was acquired by Hewlett-Packard. He has held positions with Bankers Trust Company (now Deutsche Bank) and worked as a business attorney at Bogle & Gates and Graham & Dunn law firms advising companies on finance issues and corporate transactions, with a focus on the broadcast, media and software industries. He has also provided consulting services to businesses, including Microsoft and venture funds. Robert is active in the local technology community, including serving on Washington Technology Alliance committees and as past Chair and President of the MIT Enterprise Forum of the Northwest. He holds a B.A. from Colorado College and the London School of Economics and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. Robert serves on the Seattle Aquarium Society Board of Directors, the advisory board of Red Feather Development Group and committees at the Washington Athletic Club.

Dean brings 25 years of experience in technology and management to Widemile. During his career, Dean has developed systems for business intelligence, secure messaging, network management and enterprise data integration as well as several Internet ASP implementations. As Senior Vice President of Products and Strategy at TeamOn.com he managed the product development groups that built the innovative enterprise messaging solutions later acquired by Research in Motion. Prior to TeamOn, Dean was CTO & Senior VP of Products at Attachmate Corporation, where he managed over 500 people in seven cities. During Kimball’s tenure, Attachmate revenues grew from $150M to over $400M. Dean also played a major role in developing early application server technologies at IBM Corporation and was a key member of the US West Network Systems team that developed the world’s first graphical network management system.

Vladimir Brayman has more than 20 years of experience in the high-tech industry as well as in academia. Prior to joining Widemile, he was a Vice President at Clearsight Systems, an enterprise decision-making systems company, where he oversaw product development. Dr. Brayman is widely published, holds several patents, and also serves as an affiliate faculty member in Industrial Engineering at the University of Washington. His research interests include logistics, communication networks, optimization, and optimal control theory. Dr. Brayman has more than 20 referenced publications in these areas and holds several patents.

Bob brings over 15 years of software sales, marketing and business development experience to Widemile. Bob possesses deep analytics and search marketing insight as well as experience in developing and executing new solution and partner go-to-market strategies, and building and managing cross-functional teams. Most recently, Bob led WebTrends’ partner sales group and was responsible for developing the company’s search marketing strategy. Previously, Bob has led business development, alliances, product marketing and direct marketing efforts for companies including Peregrine Systems, Commtouch, Netscape and Macromedia. Bob graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in Economics.

Gregg’s experience spans the Internet, online advertising, consumer products, wireless, and digital media industries. Prior to joining Widemile, he led the multivariate testing and conversion optimization business unit for the Atlas Division of aQuantive. As Vice President of Marketing at Neah Power Systems, a fuel cell company, he managed the public launch of the company, in addition to other business-building and fund-raising activities. Previously, he managed the launch of various Internet-based digital media products and services for RealNetworks. Gregg also has experience operating his own entrepreneurial venture, Andiamo Marketing, and in consumer brand management at Kraft Foods, as well as strategy and business process consulting while at Braxton Associates and Price Waterhouse. He graduated magna cum laude in Industrial Engineering from the University of Michigan and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.

John is a financial executive with experience starting, growing and managing technology companies. For the last four years, he has provided corporate finance and strategic advisory services to a variety of clients, advising and assisting them with mergers and acquisitions, capital formation, restructurings, startups and growth management. Recently, John was the acting CFO of Broadstorm, a venture-backed company developing next-generation wireless broadband technologies and systems. Previously, John was the CFO and COO of CobWeb, an e-commerce application service provider. Prior to CobWeb, John was the co-founder and CFO of ShareBuilder Corporation, an Internet financial services company. John holds a B.S.in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington and an M.B.A. with Honors from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. John has served as an advisor to several emerging technology firms in the Seattle area, and has served on the boards of UniSite Software (now part of StreamCast Networks), and the MIT Enterprise Forum of the Northwest.

As co-founder and chairman, Don leads long-range strategy and market positioning for Widemile. With his more than 15 year history in digital marketing, Don is one of the industry’s early pioneers. In addition to launching Widemile, he founded Cosmix, one of the early high-end Internet specifications and development firms doing work for Boeing, NASA, Microsoft and Time Warner, which he sold to USWeb. Don worked for USWeb as a managing partner before co-founding Altrec.com, a leading outdoor sports equipment online retailer. Don has been an active contributor to our technology community as a member of the Technology Alliance’s Executive Committee, the Governor’s policy committee on entrepreneurial policy, and the Mayor’s Economic Opportunity Task Force.

As a pioneer in online services, interactive marketing and advanced analytics, Mary brings to Widemile a wealth of experience and guidance. For instance, she was the first President of Foote, Cone, Belding’s Worldwide Digital Media Group, Vice President of Database Marketing at Charles Schwab, Vice President of Business Planning at Prodigy and CFO of the manufacturing division of Communications Satellite Corporation. Through her Oak Grove Associates, Mary serves as an advisor to several Sand Hill Road venture capital firms on matters ranging from due diligence reviews to additional funding of portfolio start-ups and operational performance improvement. She is a graduate of the Sloan School of Management, MIT and Harvard University.

- John (Jack) Breese, PhD

Jack has advised many diverse clients on R&D management issues, mostly surrounding intellectual property. He has served as a Director of Microsoft Research, where he supervised work on research in intelligent systems including data management, machine learning, natural language processing, community technologies, adaptive systems, and user interfaces, and was a founding member of the Decision Theory and Adaptive Systems research group. Jack has numerous publications and patents in the fields of decision analysis, data mining, electronic commerce, and artificial intelligence. He received a doctorate from the Department of Engineering-Economic Systems at Stanford University, a Master’s Degree in Public Policy Studies from the University of Michigan, and a B.A. in Mathematics from Clark University. John is a member of the Washington Advisory Group.
- Kailash C. Kapur, PhD

Dr. Kapur’s career spans nearly 40 years in both academia and industry. He currently is a professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Washington. In his present position, Dr. Kapur is responsible for teaching and research in the areas of quality engineering, design reliability, industrial experimental design, system optimization and control, and productivity improvement. Dr. Kapur has also worked with some of the leading industrial and government organizations in the world, including NASA, Siemens, Microsoft, LG Group, the Chinese Manufacturing Association, Northrup Grumman, the U.S. Army, the American Supplier Institute, and several companies in the automotive sector, among others. He is a subject matter expert in quality control, Six Sigma, Design of Experiments, factorial optimization and linear programming. Dr. Kapur received a Bachelor’s degree (1963) in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction from Delhi University; M. Tech. degree (1965) in Industrial Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology; M.S. degree (1967) in Operation Research; and Ph.D. degree (1969) in Industrial Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Dan is CEO of Dan Rosen & Associates, an early-stage technology investment and advisory firm. He is the founding general partner of Frazier Technology Ventures, a technology venture capital firm, where he served from 2000 to 2006. Prior to that, he held several executive posts at Microsoft, including General Manager of New Technology at Microsoft Research and General Manager, MSN Network. Earlier in his career, Dan spent several years at AT&T, where he was the VP and general manager of its first consumer Internet offering, among other positions. He is chairman of Clearsight Systems, Neah Power Systems, the Alliance of Angels, and serves on the boards of Modumetal, The Technology Alliance, and the Humane Society of King County. He previously was on the boards of UUNET (now part of Verizon), General Magic, and Individual Inc. He holds a Ph.D. in biophysics from University of California San Diego, and a B.A. in biology from Brandeis University. He holds several patents in communications and Internet technologies.

Elliott has focused his research and work on applying quantitative analysis to address today’s real–world business challenges in the area of marketing, consumer pricing and finance. Dr. Waldron is currently a founder and managing partner of L1 Partners, a quantitative commodity investment fund. Prior to L1, Dr. Waldron played a key role in developing the world’s first airfare prediction product at Farecast. Prior to Farecast, Dr. Waldron served as the Chief Scientist for Sightward, a predictive analytics software company, where he led research and development of the company’s core direct marketing prediction engine. He earned a PhD in Cognitive Psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a BA in Psychology from the University of Puget Sound.

Peter is Managing Director at North Point Advisors, an M&A advisory firm located in San Francisco, CA. Previously, Peter was a Managing Director at Salomon Smith Barney where he founded and ran the Online Media investment banking franchise, and also ran the Digital Media and Marketing investment banking efforts at ThinkEquity Partners. Selected digital media clients have included aQuantive, AOL, CNET, DoubleClick, GoTo.com (Overture), Juno Online, MarketWatch, Monster Worldwide, and Sportsline. He also publishes the Media Tech Monthly, which focuses on media and marketing companies that use technology to bring new content and services to consumers and the advertisers who want to reach them. Peter graduated cum laude with an A.B. in government from Dartmouth College in 1986 and earned an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 1991.
